Writing Resources! (pls read/help!)?

I write fanfiction and 'original' stories, and I like writing in different time periods.. which is something I haven't really tried yet.
The time periods I write in would probably be medieval-ish (kinda like in Tamora Pierce books) or like 1900's (like, uh, Jane Austen?)
So if you guys have any links or info that would help me out, like knowing whats what, how people talked, and weapons and events of those times, that'd be awesome :D
Your info could help me make The Great, er, Australian Novel! Lol.
AND ANY TIPS AND SITES FOR WRITING IN GENERAL WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! <3
