I can't see my desktop, yet my computer is working fine!?

  • I restarted my computer only to discover that my desktop was not visible. So i restarted it again, and this time saw that all my icons and the start bar pop up for a second, only to go away, leaving only my wall paper.

    My browser and some other programs start up with the computer, and I can use them, i am writing this on the computer in question right now. Its not an immediate problem because most of what i do is on the internet anyway, but I still don't have access to a lot of the stuff that i need.

    I've honestly never had this happen before, any ideas?


  • If it's just the icons that you are missing, right-click the screen and go to Arrange icons by> then choose Show desktop icons from the menu.



  • If you can't see your desktop you need glasses. If you can't see things displayed on your desktop, then you have a problem. Ithink I need more info to help you out. So your saying that only certain programs are being displayed?


  • Something is killing Windows Explorer

    Type CTRL-ALT-DEL and get the Task Manager up. Select Applications and click the "New Task" button. Type in
    Explorer
    and click the OK button and your start bar should come back.
    If it doesn't you might need to roll back Windows to a previous good state.
