Does anyone know how to make a temporary wrist brace? ?

March 13th, 2010 by , under nnmj.com.

  • I just need to come up with something to hold me through until tomorrow afternoon. I'm going to the doctors to see about the fact that I may be developing carpal tunnel since I've been getting these horrid pains in my hands and wrists, and the fact that certain fingers go numb and others twitch occasionally. I've been waking up in the night because my hands feel like there's thousands of little pinpricks stabbing all over.

    Any suggestions? :/

  • well to be sure it is carpal tunnel, you should feel numbness or tingling somewhere between your thumb to middle finger. you can get some tape, preferrably athletic tape, but you could use masking tape too. wind it around your wrist first in a circular pattern. then, make 2 figure 8s crossing btw the thumb and forefinger and back around the wrist to. finally, just wrap it a couple more times for additional support. also, very importantly wrap your wrist in neutral position (not overly bent or extended back) because bending the wrist forward would compress the tunnel where your nerve is coming through.

If you have a tendency to sleep flexing your wrists often, I would also recommend maybe sleeping while holding a weight in your hand to keep you from flexing it. ---- if this is comfortable

  • use sometipe of cloth, or towel

  • you don't need one -use heat/ice, try advil/alleve, elevate the wrist, go to the chiropractor, avoid repetitive motion, and see your doctor.

  • ace bandage?

  • Go to a 24 hour pharmacy and buy a wrist brace designed for the wrist that is bothering you. Even if it isn't carpel tunnel Syndrome, it could be helpful to have on hand for when the wrist is acting up. I am an interpreter for the deaf and I put them on when my wrists get bad. It is the best investment I ever made. I bought one for each wrist. The reason I say to buy one is because it is positioned correctly for your wrist to be in the best healing position.

If you just need something to get you overnight, then I guess it's an ACE bandage if you have one. I have tried duct tape and a ruler but the ruler isn't bent properly to help with the pain. The duct tape also pulled off my arm hair and some of my skin. I don't recommend it. If you have to go out and get an ACE bandage, pay the extra and get the actual wrist braces. It's worth it.
