Classical music and Opera scene written IN THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE

  • Please identify sites which have current and updated news about classical music, operas, concerts and personalities written IN THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE. No sites about "rock" or "pop" please!

  • Ciao pppgringa, I was going to reply to your question in my very mediocre Italian, but then I realised that you may be requesting the information for someone else and may not actually read Italian yourself. The best site I found for your purposes is http://www.promart.it/ It has a calendar of classical performance dates (in Italy), as well as information on artists and agencies - just click the links on the left hand side of the page. Another site that may be useful is www.opera.it It was down when I tried to access it, but as it is an 'official' site it should be back up soon. A great site about Italian musicians generally is www.musicaitaliana.com Although it is a site on *all* Italian musicians and musical genres, entering artist names into the search engine (I tried Pavarotti) brings up current news and information on that artist. http://lascala.milano.it is the official site of La Scala opera house, and contains information about the 2002-03 performance season, as well as information about the theatre itself. There are some sections of the site that you will need to register to access, but it's an absolutely gorgeous website. In case news is not enough for you but you can't get to the opera, http://joshua.micronet.it/italian/mariobiondi/opere/diz_opera_.html offers free listening access to all of the classical and opera recordings the domain holder owns. There is a truly amazing selection, and it's searchable. To find these sites, I searched using the terms 'musica opera classicale italia', 'classical music news' and 'opera news' in Google's 'advanced search', specifying that the pages returned should all be in Italian. I hope I have at least provided you with a useful starting point - remember that most sites link to other similar sites they may be in partnership with. If you are unsatisfied with my research and require more of me, or feel that further clarification of your needs would help return a better result, please do not hesitate to say so. Best Wishes, shananigans-ga

  • The sites you identified are indeed a good "starting point" but, although I am interested in concert dates, etc. I am more interested in a "clipping service" type of sire (NY Times, for instance, sends me daily up-dates from their music and opera articles.)Does something of a more newsy focus exist? Or will I find in under news in the promart.it section? Today's articles were not very interesting and some are outdated. I need CURRENT, breaking news, interviews, backstage stories, etc. Any further suggestions? (FYI-I am the user and do read and write and speak Italian) Thanks!!

  • pppgringa, I'm sorry for assuming you were after generalia rather than hard-hitting news! Google's 'advanced search' option has a feature that enables you to search newspaper headlines from the past week, however when I entered the keywords 'opera classical music' all the articles returned were in English; there is no option to search in any other language at this stage. http://www.gmn.com/ is a news and information site dedicated to classical music, opera, theatre and other arts. It seems to be 'right down your alley', but unfortunately it's in English. http://www.mvdaily.com/ is 'the world's first daily classical music magazine', but once again, it's in English. http://www.cosmopolis.ch/musiclinks.htm provides a list of awards, publications and official websites for classical music (and jazz); unfortunately it too is in English. The previous three sites were all found using google's 'directory' function with the terms "opera classical music", unfortunately it is not possible to search for Italian entries specifically. I have however found a discussion group which focusses on opera and classical music styles, it can be found at http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=lang_it&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=it.arti.musica.classica.mod I'm sure the people within the group will be able to point you in the right direction if the English sites I've found for you are of no use. Mi dispiace che not potrei aiutarsi piu, shananigans-ga
